Aircraft > Single-Engine Piston > Royal Aircraft Factory > N124BM: Royal Aircraft Factory SE5A REPLICA
THIS SALE IS FOR TWO AIRPLANES AIRPLANE #1 - This is a WWI SE5a replica made in 1977 on Replica Plans drawings. It is a 7/8th scale or close to 90% so it can use a modern power plant. 26 ft. span and 20 ft. length, pretty close to the original. It has a Lycoming O-235c1 behind a beautiful custom wooden prop. The wings and center section went through a complete rebuild in 2016 and the fabric is in excellent condition. The Replica Plans drawings from the 1970s originally had a single long aileron on each of the lower wings. When the wings were redesigned, the top center section was broadened and ailerons installed on all four wings as per original WWI SE5as. Flight controls are made with a control column. The fake machine gun triggers on the lollipop style control column work the radio when pressed. The airplane is equipped with a Terra 760D Comm and a Terra 250D XPNDR. The instruments are basic but there is also a cylinder head temp gauge installed and a primer. The disk brakes are controlled with heel brakes at the lower corners of the rudder pedals. They work very well and hold the aircraft without issue on high RPM run ups. The aircraft is made of mostly birch and mahogany ply. It is very sturdy. The plane has all of its 40 hrs certification flown off in the early 1990s and the total hours on the airframe and engine are approx. 190 hrs. Last compression check showed 78, 79, 74, and 76. The engine runs well and sounds great with the long stainless steel exhaust pipes. A magneto was replaced last year and the battery is new. The plane was featured in Replica Fighters Magazine and has flown in MN, IA, TX, NC, AZ, and OK. This plane was flown by John Penney of the Collins Foundation from Tuscon, AZ to OKC, OK across the continental divide via El Paso in 2018. John put it through its paces and also made a complete operations manual for it. It is a handsome machine with lots of superb craftsmanship. It has always been hangared. Plane was started and taxied to the compass rose for a complete run up with all systems green recently. All logbooks are present and have also been digitized. The complete history of the plane is known. AIRPLANE #2 (unfinished and incomplete) - In addition to this plane, the package includes a second Replica Plans SE5a, with engine, that is about 30% complete. The wings are per original plans with long ailerons and come in a wing rack. The uncovered empanage is complete. The Fuselage is mostly complete and newer than the wings. It was built by Roy McCaldin who won a Lindberg Award at Oshkosh for his fabulous DH4 replica. The engine is a Lycoming O-235c. It has an extra starter. Most of the basic instruments for the panel are still in their boxes in new condition. Two sets of wheels, tailwheel and lots of the metal fittings made by a previous owner. It has most of what is needed. It comes with a complete set of Replica Plans drawings in a tube. PRICE IS $35,000 FOR BOTH PLANES. They are sold as is where is. There is much more that can be said and I have detailed pictures of both aircraft for serious inquirers. Happy to answer any questions. If interested in purchase, please contact me.
